PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING
Our fun practical courses aim to inspire and excite classroom practitioners. All the workshops are designed to be practical, offering teachers tools and skills that can be used in the classroom the following day. Our team of experienced classroom practitioners adopt a relaxed, informal approach, so we can guarantee you will have an informative and useful day.
Study Support Coordinators Training.
This course combines training in brain based and accelerated learning with the opportunity to get accredited recognition for your school’s Study Support activities through QiSS (Quality in Study Support). This six-day course spread throughout the year will provide you with the support, ideas and enthusiasm you will need to successfully co-ordinate your schools Study Support provision. The course will explore how you can extend, enrich and enable student learning beyond the school day.
* If your school chooses to apply for QiSS recognition then you have the opportunity to draw upon the expertise of our ‘critical friend’ team, who can support you through the submission of your application.
De Bono’s ‘Six Hat’ Thinking®
Six Thinking Hats ® provides a systematic approach to comprehensive and constructive thinking. The Thinking Hats can help to generate new insights and perspectives. Using six different coloured hats as a metaphor, this method can help to focus individuals on the strengths and weaknesses of particular concepts whilst acknowledging emotional influences and generating new ideas. This course is delivered by de Bono accredited trainers. Participants will receive a ‘De Bono’ accreditation certificate from this course.
De Bono’s CoRT1® – Thinking Skills.
This six hour course will accredit participants with a ‘de bono’ teacher’s certificate. CoRT Thinking allows us to focus attention directly on different aspects of thinking and crystallise these processes into definite concepts and tools that can be used deliberately to move our thinking along. CoRT1 is sometimes described as Directional Thinking as well as Breadth Thinking.
Building motivation and learner confidence.
Drawing upon our experience of working with young people, this course introduces you to some techniques to inspire and motivate students. Throughout the workshop participants will explore with each other how changing the classroom ethos can improve enjoyment, attainment and engagement in any subject. Participants will be introduced to educational kinesiology and energisers, use of music in the classroom, thematic curriculum and techniques in brain-based learning.
Brain Based Learning Workshops
Accelerated Learning Cycle
The accelerated learning cycle provides an effective framework that practitioners can use to plan their lessons. It considers the process learners go through and explores each stage of the cycle, starting with the learning environment, and working through the cycle considering each element of the learning process. This practical workshop offers ideas and tools that can be used in the classroom that can help in facilitating effective learning.
Learning Styles & Multiple intelligence Workshop
This workshop considers visual, auditory and kinaesthetic approaches to learning, and how these teaching styles can be applied in the classroom. The course then considers if people have a ‘type of intelligence’, and how acknowledging these different types can help students to realise their potential, as they realise intelligence can be learnt!
Introduction to Educational Neuro-lingustic Psychology (NLP)
This course is ideal for teachers and TAs who want to find out more about improving rapport with students. Many who have used NLP in the classroom have been astonished by how a simple change in language and close attention to body language can change student behaviour. Participants will be shown how reading ‘eye accessing’ clues and listening to the type of words being used can reveal a students learning style. The course will also consider if psychological ‘anchors’ can be used to moderate behaviour.

The Happiness Experiment
Is it possible to learn to be happy? If we can improve our emotional well being, then what impact does that changed state of mind have on our performance? The workshop is a series of fun experiments which takes a light-hearted look at happiness, and if it is something which can be taught.
The Happy Hour
If you have got to the end of a stressful term and everyone feels a little worn, then this workshop is a great way to let off steam. In this team building session, staff battle against each other in teams to compete for prizes. It gives staff the opportunity to socialise with each other and develop creative ideas. This session best suits a whole school INSET.
Memory and Revision Skills
Through combining psychology theory and knowledge of multiple intelligences, this workshop provides practical techniques for improving memory and developing revision skills. The session explores how engaging emotions can help to develop memories and how using visual, auditory and kinaesthetic approaches to learning can be used to help students revise. This course can be run either with staff or students and it can be adapted to meet the requirements of any year group as they prepare for SATS, GCSE or A-levels.

HappiVERSITY
Does being happy affect our emotional, intellectual and physical performance? Is it possible to learn to be happier? In our ‘happiVERSITY’ workshops students take the role of the researcher and investigate the term ‘happiness’.
Our researchers are invited to consider if factors such as being part of a community, eating healthily and having meaning in life can make someone a happier person. They are encouraged to think about the implications that happy citizens might have on society and the economy. With schools, politicians and academics taking an active interest in emotional well this course will ensure that your students are at the forefront of the new science of happiness.
Student Consultation
Student involvement and personalised learning are high on the educational agenda. Our team of experienced classroom practitioners can conduct independent consultations with your students covering issues such as ‘Every Child Matters’, through to the type of activities they want to do after school. You will receive a written report with photographic evidence that you can use to inform future planning.
